I love when I have a chance to collaborate on a project with my boyfriend Mike and his band Mike and the Moonpies. We’ve been working for months now getting promotions together for his upcoming album ‘The Hard Way’ (which goes live October 26 with a kickoff at The Rattle Inn).
The Moonpies music is heavily influenced by honky tonk outlaws of the 70’s: Doug Sahm, Willie, Waylon, et al. We both knew they needed a really classic, curved piece that would pay tribute to the path walked by the legends before them. I can honestly say this was the most difficult logo I’ve ever worked on (Mike wanted a few more curves in there but it wasn’t happening – ha!). After hours of late night sketching and retracing, I’m really happy with the result!
For those of you who are fans of Mike and the Moonpies, get ready for a serious merch overdose. Mike and I ordered a hat and shirt press a few weeks ago. Expect trucker caps, baseball tees, t-shirts, vintage style two-tone yoke football shirts, ladies’ football shirts, koozies, stickers and so much more at the merch booth (which I’ll be working at the cd release party!).
Labor of love, indeed.
